Greater understanding of bacterial communities through new statistical methods

Viktor Jonsson, Department of Marine Sciences, presents several new statistical methods for DNA-based analysis of microorganisms in his doctoral thesis.

With metagenomics, the genetic make-up of microorganisms present in a particular environment, such as bacteria in the stomach of a person, are analysed. But the amount of data generated is large and complex, placing high demands on the statistical analysis.
